After completing this course, the student
- knows the chemicals hazardous to the health and the environment and their transport and distribution in the environment
- understands the interactions between the chemicals and biological systems
- understands the space- and time- scales of the environmental pollution and the importance of legislation
- Is familiar with the research methods in toxicology
- knows the toxicological and ecotoxicological indicators and is able to perform risk analysis.
Sisältö
Environmental pollutants, release, transport, effects and fate of environmental pollutants in organisms, principles of toxicology, ecotoxicology and environmental toxicology, ecotoxicity tests and their interpretation. Laboratory exercises to determine ecotoxicological indicators.

Demonstrates basic knowledge of hazardous chemicals and their distribution in the environment. Understands fundamental interactions between chemicals and biological systems. Has a rudimentary understanding of the spatial and temporal scales of environmental pollution and recognizes the importance of legislation. Familiar with basic toxicology research methods. Knows essential toxicological and ecotoxicological indicators and can conduct simple risk analyses.
